Well, we did it!
We are officially signed into our loan and able to begin
construction at any time. To tell you the truth, I had NO IDEA how stressful it
would be to sign those papers and actually start. Up to this point it has all
still seemed rather dream-like – we have no tangible proof (outside the massive
stack of product brochures and pricing information currently overwhelming our
coffee table) that we are doing anything really out of the ordinary. Yesterday
brought it all home in a very real way.
We have signed our names and promised to complete this
project – now it’s up to us to control those decorating urges and prices to let
us enjoy our new home fully instead of wishing it didn’t cost so much. (Cheap
laminate for us, please!)
Don’t get me wrong; we are still excited! We are excited to
be in a location MUCH better suited to us and our lifestyle, and we are excited
to have a place we can call home forever – and arranged the way we want! It’s a
very big mental load to carry right now, though.
This is by far not the most stressful or
life-changing/upsetting event that we have ever dealt with, however, and I have
no doubt we will sail through these decisions with flying colors.
I have contacted the electric company to see when they need
notification to connect the site, and A has spoken to his boss to see about
staking out the position of the house – then we are calling the excavator and
we will have a hole in the ground!
That is, if we don’t get 5 inches of snow this weekend…that
might delay things a tad.
